ULAB Holds Day-long "Borsha Biplober Smriticharon 2026" to Commemorate the July Mass Uprising
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a day-long program titled "Borsha Biplober Smriticharon 2026" on July 30, 2026, to commemorate the memory, courage, sacrifice, and unity demonstrated during the July Mass Uprising. Organized by ULAB students, the event paid tribute to the martyrs of the uprising while honoring the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of ULAB students who actively participated in the movement.
The day-long program featured a series of commemorative activities, including a discussion session, a photo exhibition, graffiti and live art installations, documentary screenings on the July Mass Uprising, a tree plantation campaign, an open remembrance and reflection session, cultural performances, special prayers for the martyrs, the presentation of commemorative crests to members of martyrs' families, and a candlelight vigil.
At the inaugural ceremony, Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, said that the current generation has demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership, leaving an enduring mark on the history of Bangladesh. He recalled the pivotal role played by students during the July Mass Uprising, particularly those from private universities, and urged everyone to work together in building a just, equitable, and inclusive society. As the Special Guest, Professor Jude William Genilo, PhD, Pro Vice Chancellor of ULAB, said that the July Mass Uprising instilled courage, confidence, and inspiration among students, and that its legacy would continue to inspire future generations. Among others present at the inauguration were Lt Col Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd) Registrar of ULAB, along with faculty members, administrative officials and students.
Following the inauguration, the Vice Chancellor joined students in a tree plantation campaign on campus. Students also expressed the spirit and sacrifices of the July Mass Uprising through graffiti and live art installations. Throughout the day, students enthusiastically participated in the documentary screenings, remembrance sessions, cultural performances, and other commemorative activities.
