State Minister and Ambassador Join ULAB’s “Cosmologies of Confluence” Festival
The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a day-long cultural festival and discussion titled “Cosmologies of Confluence” on 18 April 2026 at its campus, with the participation of the Honorable State Minister, ambassador, and diplomats from various countries, marking the celebration of the Bengali New Year. The event brought together the diverse traditions of New Year celebrations across South and Southeast Asia, creating a vibrant platform for dialogue, artistic expression, and cultural exchange.
The Honorable State Minister of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Bobby Hajjaj, MP, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized that such initiatives play a significant role in strengthening mutual understanding and harmony by honoring cultural diversity. The Vice Chancellor of ULAB, Professor Shamsad Mortuza, PhD, delivered the welcome address, stating that integrating education and culture through such initiatives helps nurture a global outlook and human values in the new generation. The conceptual background and objectives of the event were presented by Professor Kaiser Haq, PhD. At the end of the inaugural session, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of ULAB, Professor Jude William R. Genilo, PhD, extended a vote of thanks to all attendees.
During the main discussion session, His Excellency Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, along with distinguished diplomats from various countries, shared their reflections on the significance of the event and the importance of intercultural connection. Renowned singer-songwriter and writer Moushumi Bhowmik was also present at the session.
The festival also featured vibrant cultural performances by ULAB students and traditional games, adding a lively and engaging dimension to the celebration. The day-long celebration concluded with a closing discussion titled “Calendars and Festivals Beyond Borders
Special guests at the event included UNESCO Bangladesh Representative Dr. Susan Vize, Chief of Chakma Circle, Raja Devasish Roy, Country Director of The Hunger Project Prashanta Tripura, and researcher and writer Pavel Partha. The event highlighted the richness of diverse cultural traditions and the shared human connections across different regions.
