Project Proposal Presentation of Ctrl + Alt + Story Project Held at ULAB
The Media Studies and Journalism Department held the Project Proposal Presentation of the ULAB-Drik fellowship program on longform journalism - Ctrl + Alt + Story: Research & Storytelling in Journalism. The session was held on Thursday (March 12) at ULAB Campus.
The session brought together excellent project proposals on issues today’s youth feel our society needs to know in depth. The concepts reflected how critically the young minds look into everything around us – impact of climate change, pets and wildlife, gender and other minorities, recent political events, education system – to name a few.
The jury panel consisted of Arifa Ghani Rahman (Head, Department of English and Humanities), Dr. Shazzad Hossain (Associate Professor, Media Studies and Journalism, ULAB), and renowned journalist Saydia Gulrukh (Drik). Prof. Sumon Rahman, Dean of the School of Social Science and Head, Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ), also observed the session. He said, with much joy and hope, that he was amazed by the depth of the works, and he is hopeful that the next generation is growing up as more aware and people-centered thinkers. He also emphasized on properly nurturing the young minds to build a mediascape upholding public interest above all.
The project Coordinators, MSJ Associate Professor Dr. Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal and Oliur Rahman Sun (Lecturer, English and Humanities) moderated the session.
It is noteworthy here that the current cohort of the Ctrl+Alt+Story fellowship program started with 21 participants, learning the art of longform storytelling through workshops and masterclasses facilitated by renowned journalists and storytellers. Ten participants were chosen through the Project Proposal Presentation Session who will receive a fellowship of fifty thousand taka each to see their dream project come to light.
