Film Screening and Exhibition Highlights the Opening Day of ULAB’s Curriculum Integration Exhibition

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB), in collaboration with the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, has successfully concluded the first day of its Curriculum Integration Exhibition (Fall 2025) at the Jatiya Chitrashala Auditorium, leaving audiences with thoughtful messages to think about and reflect upon. 

Organised by ULAB’s Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ), this semester’s exhibition carried the theme “Necropolitics and the media.”

The Chief guest of this semester, Professor Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy, highlighted the theme, saying, “It is a construction of society and the media that regards some deaths as negligible and less important." He praised this effort at curriculum integration, noting that it equips ULAB graduates with practical, real-world skills that give them a meaningful advantage beyond the classroom.

The program began with the opening remarks of Professor Sumon Rahman, Head of the MSJ Department, who welcomed everyone to the event. He spoke about the media and the role necropolitics plays in today's world, setting the tone for the entire event. 

Following his speech, the film screening portrayed the works produced by ULAB students, reflecting the theme of Necropolitics deeply through creative filmmaking. Every audiovisual demonstrated the students’ skills of creative writing and producing works that conveys messages strongly and impactfully.

The first day concluded with a visual exhibition, showcasing the diverse works of ULAB students. It included mixed-media, photography, conceptual artworks and detailed installations. There were many interactive pieces, which let the audience be an active part of the work and understand the essence of the theme first-hand. Merging the gap between creativity and a powerful message, the exhibition was truly the highlight of the beginning of CI, Fall 2025. 

About the Exhibition
The Curriculum Integration Exhibition is a signature initiative of ULAB’s Department of Media Studies and Journalism, held every semester. It merges academic learning with public engagement, giving students a platform to creatively address pressing social issues through media projects, installations, performances, and public showcases. This semester’s theme, “Necropolitics and the media” will continue to unfold in the upcoming days with thought-provoking displays, creating the perfect link between creativity and social responsibilities.
