Center for Language Studies (CLS) organized a Japanese cultural festival

Center for Language Studies (CLS), University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a Japanese cultural festival titled “CLS Tsukimi: Harvest Moon Festival” on Tuesday, September 03, 2019, at Campus A, ULAB. This festival was held as part of the Japanese language course offered by the Center for Language Studies at ULAB. The chief guest was Machiko Yamamura, Head of Cultural Affairs, Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh. Prof Dr. HM Jahirul Haque, Vice Chancellor, ULAB, Prof Shamsad Mortuza, Pro-vice Chancellor, ULAB, Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor (BOT) and Dean, School of Business, ULAB and Prof. Shaila Sultana, Advisor, Center for Language Studies (CLS) graced the event. Students from ULAB and the Department of Japanese Studies, Institute of Modern Languages (IML), University of Dhaka participated in the cultural program. There were a drama and Japanese dance presented by the Dhaka University team. ULAB team presented Japanese song and an enticing show of Japanese martial arts. There was an Origami workshop as well where the audience learnt how to make a paper box. Ms. Yamamura in her speech showed a clip of autumn culture of Japan and talked about Japanese scholarship for Bangladeshi students. With such a harmonious and successful inter-cultural program, ULAB hopes to initiate a new relationship with Japan with the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, and plans towards having more students learning Japanese and preparing themselves for a promising career in an international arena, especially in Japan.
