Ms. Sharmin Haq, Lecturer, ETE, presented a paper at the 2010 International Conference on Micro Nano Devices, Structure and Computing Systems. Singapore (NOV 6-7, 2010). The conference is sponsored by ISEC, NUS,IITA and SZU. Ms. Haq's topic was "Room Temperature Synthesis and Characterization of Gold Nanoparticles (AuNPs)." |

UN Library Network Workshop on MDGs Achievement in Bangladesh and Content Management in Knowledge Centers was organized jointly by ULAB and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Dhaka at the Computer Lab 301 on November 12, 2010 from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. M. Moniruzzaman, Reference Officer, UNIC Dhaka office delivered welcome address.
Mr. Anis Pervez, Associate Professor, Department of Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) and Coordinator of ULAB Library Affairs delivered opening speech. He narrated the evolution of contents management from the primitive times to the contemporary age. He also emphasized on using modern technologies for contents management in knowledge centers/Libraries for providing better services.
Mr. Kazi Ali Reza, Officer- -in-charge, UNIC Dhaka office delivered speech as Resource Person on MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) Achievement in Bangladesh. In reference to the Human Development Report 2010 (HDR 2010), he indicated that some south Asian countries have achieved remarkable progress in particular areas of MDGs. He chalked out how to make MDGs attainable by 2015.
Mr. Santu Saha, an artist, presented papers and exhibited posters on Millennium Development Goals. He published posters with UNIC finance for popularizing and publicizing the MDGs through creative works.
Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin, Senior Manager, LISU, ICDDR, B and Mr. M. Hossam Haider Chowdhury, Librarian, Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) delivered lectures jointly on Content Management in Knowledge Centers/Libraries. They highlighted on the integration and application of modern technologies for contents management in Libraries/ knowledge centers for delivery better services to users.
Dr. M. Nasiruddin Munshi, Professor, Department of Information Science & Library Management and Librarian-in-charge was also present at the workshop. Participants (Library Personnel) from 35 organizations (private & public) attended the workshop. The workshop ended with a question & answer session. |

Student Photo Award Ceremony 2010 |

The culmination of the Student Photo Exhibition and Contest 2010. Awards were given to the best photographers of the exhibition, and the 12 best will be published in the ULAB Calendar 2011. Chief Guest of the ceremony wa: Golam Sawar, Editor of the Daily Samakal. The Celebrity Guest Judge was renowned Bangladesh photographer GMB Akash. Mr. Golam Sarwar spoke highly of ULAB and promised to publish the photos in Samakal's magazine.
The theme of the exhibit was: URBAN OASIS. It was explained by Juditha Ohlmacher, Director of Communications: "Our world is being taken over by the concrete jungle of buildings and asphalt, which kills plants, displaces wildlife, and saps our own spirit of humanity and our connection to nature. Yet somehow, nature survives, still more powerful than our attempts to destroy it. Not only do flowers still bloom and birds still nest, but a spirit of life and joy survives within us, undaunted. We challenged our students to look beyond the concrete, to find the beauty of life that survives in the midst of the urban." The winners were: 1st Place: Home Jungle; Sk.
