1.   What are ULAB's programs of study?

At present, ULAB has four schools (faculties) and four honors subjects.

 
2.  What are the minimum eligibility requirements for admission in degree programs?

Students who have successfully completed their 12 years of pre-university education are eligible to apply for admission. For example, successful completion of the HSC examination from National boards of Bangladesh or successful completion of ‘A' levels.

 

3.   What is ULAB's admission procedure?

A student must collect an application form from the Admissions office and submit the form with required papers along with three passport size photographs to the same office. The applicant then must appear for an interview. If the Admissions Committee of ULAB is satisfied with the applicant, then s/he may take admission by paying admission fees of Tk. 10,250/- (Taka ten thousand only).

 
4.   How many semesters does ULAB have in a year?

Three regular semesters, namely: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Fall starts from first/second week of October and continues up to second /third week of February; and Spring starts from second/third week of March and continues up to second / third week of July. The Summer session starts from second week of August and continues up to mid of September. The duration of each regular semester is 15 - 17 weeks.

 
5.   What about ULAB's accreditation?

ULAB is accredited by the Government of Bangladesh through the Ministry of Education, and its curriculum is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

 
6. What is the difference between ULAB & public universities of Bangladesh?
  • Degrees will be awarded within stipulated time (four-years).
  • No session jams.
  • Regularity of classes is strictly maintained.
  • Favorable and healthy academic environment exists on campus.
 

7.   What is the difference between ULAB & other private universities in Bangladesh?

From its very the beginning, a group of eminent professors who are pioneers in their respective areas have been working at ULAB. Being a new university, we are providing state-of-the-art facilities, such as the first Media Lab in any private university in Bangladesh. Our campus building is owned by the university itself. The Board of Governors has members of a very reputed business house which employs some 12,000 people. ULAB graduates may therefore be offered positions internally.

 

8.   What are the facilities for students at ULAB?

Students are guided and counseled in selection of courses by individual academic advisors, and professional career guidance will be provided for career preparation. Individual student's physical and mental well-being is also monitored properly.

 

9.   Why must ULAB students take the General Education program?

The General Education Program helps students to pursue their own choice of higher studies while developing better analytical and communication skills and broaden their mental horizons.

 

10. What is the duration of bachelor degree program at ULAB?

Normal duration of the bachelor degree program is of four-year but a student may complete his/her four-year program in less than four years, by completing three successive summer sessions.

 
11.  What about seat capacity at ULAB?

Being a new university, ULAB has been selecting students very carefully. Seats are limited and determined before the beginning of each semester.

 

12. What about ULAB's affiliations?

A proper university cannot be affiliated with any other university. All universities are independent.

 

13. Does ULAB have link programs or academic collaboration with universities abroad?

ULAB is in the process of establishing link program or academic collaboration with several universities abroad in USA, Canada and UK.

 

14. Is there any international faculty at ULAB?

Beginning Fall 2006 session, 4 international faculty members from the USA and one from Australia will be teaching at ULAB.

 
15. What about the standard of ULAB's degree?

ULAB is offering four-year bachelor's degrees with honors/majors in four subjects and MBA and EMBA. All these programs have been developed in consultation with reputed faculty members of different universities here and abroad. The programs are of international standard and are accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

 

16. What does credit stand for?

Credit means weekly class. For example: MGT 201 is a 4 (four) credit course means there will be three class of (fifty) minutes duration plus some tutorial classes in each week of a semester.

 
17. Are ULAB credits are transferable abroad?
Credits are transferable to most of the recognized universities abroad (mainly USA) and courses are compatible by content.
 

18. Will ULAB graduates be eligible to appear in the BCS exam?

Yes.

 

19. Why should a student study at ULAB?

An ULAB education prepares one to take a leading role in today's rapidly changing, multicultural and technologically-based international community.

 
20. What about the future expansion of ULAB?

ULAB has already started Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and is planning on starting a Performing Arts Department.

 
21. What are the special features of ULAB?

ULAB is one of the first few private universities holds classes in its own building. Besides the City Campus at Dhanmondi, ULAB has been developing a Permanent Campus at Ramchandrapur, Mohammadpur, where there will be full academic facilities and sports facilities including football and cricket fields.

 

22. How will ULAB groom up its students?

ULAB has been preparing its students through hands-on training experience in the classroom. Students also participate in different extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Experienced faculty members monitor them during these activities. These programs help the students to develop individually as well as socially.
