A Seminar on Shakespeare at ULAB Department of English and Humanities of ULAB organized its second seminar of Summer Semester, 2012. The seminar was presented by Professor Dr. Mohit Ul Alam. Professor Mohit Ul Alam’s seminar A Hamlet by a Hamlet Undone Held in auditorium, Campus A on 19th July, 2012 Dr. Mohit Ul Alam, Professor and Head of the Department of English (DEH) and Humanities of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) presented a seminar entitled “A Hamlet by a Hamlet Undone,” in which he explained how Shakespeare develops the skill of intensifying the rivalry from his earlier plays to his mature plays. Shakespeare’s earlier plays were concerned only with morality tradition whereas his mature plays dealt with controversial differences between the protagonist and the antagonist. Due to time limitation of the seminar Dr.Mohit analyzed the maturation of the process of representing rivalry through two plays Richard II (1597; 1623) and Henry IV(both parts: 1598;1600;1623). Students of the DEH staged the deposition scene of Richard II from act 4, scene 1 where Richard surrenders his kingship to Prince Bolingbroke, now Henry IV. A Video clip of this deposition scene was also shown from the movie. The seminar ended with a scholarly question-answer session.
