ULAB-ISD and KKTE sign MoU PDF

Logo of Kazi and Kazi Tea EstateULAB-ISD signed an MoU with Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd. (KKTE) on Tuesday, 29 March 2011 at the ULAB auditorium. ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman and KKTE Chief Operating Officer Syed Shoib Ahmed signed the agreement which was witnessed by ULAB Associate Professor Dr. Rathana peou van den Heuvel.

As part of the MoU, ULAB and KKTE will jointly conduct a research on the social impact of KKTE which will take four months, ending in July 2011. ULAB will provide the technical support with lead role of research. KKTE arrange all the needed financial and logistical support for this project at its estate and nearby regions in Panchagarh.

ULAB Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Imran Rahman KKTE Chief Operating Officer Syed Shoib Ahmed signed an MoU between ULAB and Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd.ULAB believes this project is an opportunity to translate its development policy into practice, and thereby create a local regional model of knowledge. KKTE believes this agreement will help to build support from ULAB in research into organic farming and healthy crops.

The Vice Chancellor of ULAB, Professor Rafiqul Islam and Vice President of the ULAB Board of Trustees Dr. Kazi Anis Ahmed were present for the undertakings along with the core fellows of Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd.

Dr. Rathana peou van den Heuvel was a speaker in Paris, France, on the topic of Migration and Climate Change at the "Le prochain RDV de la revue Hommes et Migrations" on March 25-26, 2011. She had a a special focus on forced migration.

Muktijudhdhe Dhaka 1971 Published by Asiatic Society PDF Print E-mail
The Asiatic Society, Dhaka has published the first volume of Muktijudhdhe Dhaka 1971 (Dhaka During the Liberation War) jointly edited by Prof Mohit Ul Alam and Prof Abu Muhammad Delwar Hossain on the occasion of the Celebration of 400 Years of Capital Dhaka.

The ISBN no is 978-984-33-1156-4, and price is Tk. 500/-; total pages 368.

This volume mainly contains analytical essays on the topic, and the next volume, coming out next month, will publish the interviews with the freedom fighters who conducted the guerrilla warfare in Dhaka in 1971.

A translation of both the volumes in English is in progress.

Department of English & Humanities arranged a  seminar titled "Quest for a fine balance: Romantic poetry in perspective" by Professor Khondakar Ashraf Hossain on 31 March, 2011. Educated in Dhaka and Leeds, Professor Hossain is a renowned poet, editor and translator.

 
Seminar On "Compute Continuum" PDF Print E-mail

Mr. Zia Manzur, Country Business Manager, Intel Bangladesh gave a seminar on 31 March, 2011 at ULAB. The topic of the seminar is on "Compute Continuum". The program included talks on "Understanding Compute Continuum", a brief history of Microprocessor,s and an introduction to 2nd Generation Core Processors.

The Seminar was organized by Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

 
Seminar on "An Overview of Benefits & Career on Oracle" PDF Print E-mail

There will be a seminar on  “An Overview of Benefits & Career on Oracle" by MR. Liakat Hossain  on 6th April at 4:30pm, Seminar Room, Campus B.  Mr. Liakat Hossain has extensive teaching, and professional experience in Oracle Database implementation  for many years.

The Seminar will be organized by Department of Computer Science and Engineering, ULAB.

Abstract

Oracle comes from Latin, Oraculum which means ‘’a divine announcement’’. Based in Redwood Shores, California, it has more than 43,000 employees worldwide and does business in over 150 countries. Oracle is publicly traded on the Nasdaq. Oracle says it is the world's leading supplier of software for information management but it is best known for its sophisticated relational database products. Oracle targets high-end workstations and minicomputers as the server platforms on which to run its database systems. Along with Sun Microsystems, Oracle has long been a champion of network computers.


After a brief and general introduction to the Oracle Corporation, oracle database, oracle workforce development program. Mr. Liakat will describe his own experience with oracle database implementation and the teaching experience in Oracle University.

Finally, after the lecture on oracle and its benefits for the students who are encouraged for the IT career, the audience are invited to participate with their own ideas and visions.
