Paper Presentation on Film Domestication |
Paper Presentation on Film Domestication.
ULAB Media Studies and Journalism Faculty will present a paper entitled: “New Media and the Domestication of Film” on July 22, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Seminar Room, Campus B. Authored by ULAB Associate Professor Anis Pervez, the paper will look at the penetration of film into private spaces and into our everyday lives.
The paper’s abstract reads: Diffusion of new media has an encompassing effect on our life and living; every medium seems to have undergone a change of which film is not an exception. Filmmaking—cinematography and editing—has been digitized; anyone with a camcorder or cell phone can digitally shoot footage that can be digitally edited on a laptop installed with easy to use software. Films are stored in computer, pen drive, cell phone, and projected on different mobile and home devices. People are no longer dependent on film theatres for film viewing. This is a significant change on the way films are produced, screened and distributed; a change from industry domination to personal sovereignty of filmmaking and film consumption, which can be termed domestication of film. Domestication of film is an approach to understand film as it is shaped in the age of new media marked by convergence, multi-functionality and personal attachment.
The study is one of the researches being conducted by the MSJ Department this year. Other papers include “A Survey of Public Relations Practice in Bangladesh” and “Managing the Power Crisis in Bangladesh: A Public Relations Perspective.” |
