BIID and ULAB sign MoU PDF Print E-mail

BIID and ULAB sign MoU on ICT for Development. The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and the Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on creating and promoting knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development aon August 24.   Both organizations believe that ICT is an effective tool in spurring development in Bangladesh given its interactivity, growing accessibility and ability to share information from many-to-many.  Concretely, both organizations aim to collaborate on research projects and jointly publish a Working Paper Series on ICT for Development.  

The quarterly Working Paper Series journal seeks to articulate, capture and document success stories, best practices, lessons learnt and shortcomings of projects in developing countries concerning using ICT for development purposes.  The panel of editors includes distinguished academics from all over the world, including M. Asaduzzaman, Michel Gurstain, Tim Unwin, Jude Genilo, Charletto Rome and Md. Shahid Uddin Akbar.  Assistant editors are Mahfuz Ashraf, Liton Chakraborty and Abdullah Al Mamun.  The coordinator of the Working Paper Series is Sajid Mobarak Hossain.

The BIID is an institution that supports the development and promotion of ICT-based services in Bangladesh through continuous knowledge management, innovation and development.  ULAB, on the other hand, is an institution devoted to developing young minds to their fullest potential through the free and creative pursuit of knowledge. Alongside such intellectual growth, the institution is firmly committed to helping the young men and women to become responsible and caring citizens of their nations and the world. 

Prof. Rafiqul Islam, ULAB Vice Chancellor, signed on behalf of ULAB, and Md. Shahid Uddin Akbar, Chief Executive Officer of the Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) signed on behalf of BIID. Representatives from the Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) were present.

ULAB-Geeks placed first in the 2nd Round of the Financial IT Case Competition 2009 PDF Print E-mail
ULAB-Geeks placed first in the 2nd Round of the Financial IT Case Competition 2009! The team is comprised of following students:
 
1. Abdullah-Al-Mamun (ETE)
2. Racy Gomes (ETE)
3. Tanjila Tajrin (BBA)
4. Abdullah-Al-Muzahid (BBA)
 
The team performed first round (11 July 2009) and second round (8 August 2009) presentation on their innovation project before the Jury panel and secured the top place for the final gala round event of FICC. The ULAB-Geeks stood first in top five teams whereas BUET-Sangfroid stood fourth in the top five teams.
 
The gala round will be announced soon by the Citibank and ULAB will have a great presence as the top five team within BUET, DU, SUST, and UIU.

1st ULAB Inter University Debate Competition 2009 PDF Print E-mail

ULABDC, the Debating Club of ULAB, has organized an inter university debate competition for the first time. The competition is going to accommodate eight university teams in Bangla Debate, and four in English Debate. Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF) is going assist the event by providing experienced judges and trainers.

The competition starts at 3 pm on Wednesday, August 12, with preliminary rounds of English Debate; and offers a full day,- Friday, August 14, pact with Bangla Debates of preliminary rounds from 10 am to 6 pm; and finally closes with two grand finals on Sunday, August 16, 2009, from 4 pm to 6 pm. All the venues are located in the Campus A of ULAB, Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

Other than University of Liberal Arts- the host-university, and Jahangirnagar University, most of the participating teams will be representing the universities located in Dhanmondi,  including United International University, Stamford University Bangladesh, Northern University etc. The tournament will cover debates on subcontinent and global issues.
 

Wednesday schedule:

Opening Ceremony: 2.45 pm
Venue: Auditorium.

English Debate # 1:  Stamford vs. ULAB 1
Motion:  This house believes that Bangladesh should allow transit facilities to India now.
Venue: Auditorium
Declaration of Stand:  3 pm
Debate starts at 4.15 pm, ends at 5.15 pm.

Motion: This house would stop foreign funding of Madrasahs.
