Film Screening- Football Under Cover Print
Thursday, July 14 2011, 10:00am - 12:00pm

ULAB's Media Studies and Journalism (MSJ) Department and the Goethe Institut Dhaka will screen the film entitled "Football Under Cover" at the ULAB Auditorium, Campus A, on July 14 2011 at 10:00 am.  Directed by David Assmann and Ayat Najafi, the documentary is about an amateur female football team from Berlin that goes on a nerve-wracking journey trying to carry out the first female football match in the history of Iran (86 min, Germany, 2008).

The documentary film’s synopsis is as follows:

Teheran in April 2006: The first official friendly match between the Iranian women’s football team and a local Berlin girl’s team takes place in front of more than 1000 cheering female fans. The entire stadium is electric, charged with a high voltage of girl power. A couple of men hang around in front of the gates, trying to sneak a peek over the fence. They are barred from entering today. It has taken a year’s hard work on the parts of both teams of young women to make this happen. But now, after overcoming numerous obstacles, they are really playing. And these 90 minutes are about more than just a football game. Both the desire for self-determination and equality are being expressed here and it is clear: change is possible.

After the screening, the audience will be asked to participate in a quiz.  Those who can answer correctly will be eligible to join in raffle draw where a surprise awaits the winner. Ms. Judith Mirschberger, Director of the Goethe Institut, will deliver the welcome remarks.

Location: ULAB Auditorium, Campus A
