The Media Studies and Journalism Department will premiere a documentary film entitled "Shukhpur (City of Happiness)" at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, House 42 (510), Road 7, Dhanmondi, Dhaka- 1205 on December 22, 2010, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. The film’s synopsis reads: In a materialistic world, most people run after money; believing that it is the key to happiness. However, they get lost along the way forgetting the reason behind their accumulation of wealth. Set in the city of Rajshahi, this documentary shows the search for happiness of a handful of young students who argue that money cannot buy happiness. They talk to scholars, political leaders and community members about their views about their city and whether its citizens are truly happy. The result is a brilliant discourse about the concept of happiness whether real, reel or unreal.
With a running time of 30 minutes, the documentary was produced by 23 students taking the course "Documentary Production," with Razibul Hossain as the course instructor. The premiere is part of the Digital Art, Visual Art and Photography Exhibit entitled "Happiness in Bangladesh: Real, Reel or Unreal?" The Chief Guest will be Abed Khan, Editor of The Daily Kaler Kontho. |
