Memorandum of Understanding Between ISD (ULAB)-MSJ (ULAB) & AIDA

We, Institute for Sustainable Development (ULAB) and Media Studies Journalism (ULAB) are going to sign an MoU with AIDA, Aid, Exchange and Development, a non-governmental organization based in Madrid, Spain, and with delegation in Bangladesh. The session will take plane on Wednesday, 14th July 2010 at ULAB meeting room in Campus A.

Aim of the present Memorandum of Understanding: This Memorandum of Understanding aims at defining the working relations between ULAB and two of its department ISD and MSJ and AIDA. ISD and MAJ have gone through several meetings with AIDA that allow us to design a partnership in three main domains -

DOMAIN 1: PARTICIPATIVE NEED ANALYSIS- SCOPING PROCESS: ULAB and AIDA will share different expertises of their institutions while designing researches and programs.

DOMAIN 2: SCALE UP CREATIVITY AND Student's IDEAS ULAB will be able to send some students during different terms to the working areas of AIDA and its local partners, and AIDA will provide short seminars in ULAB to present their field experience as well as their technical capacities.

DOMAIN 3: FROM THE GENERATION OF DEMAND-BASED KNOWLEDGE TO SUBSTANTIVE KNOWLEDGE ULAB together with AIDA, understand the need to generate a practical knowledge but as well a substantive one that will allow ULAB to define news courses, curriculum. AIDA could be included in the elaboration of the curriculum as well as on the presentation of classes/seminars, if of interest of ULAB.

Presentation of AIDA: AIDA aims at promote cooperation, development and solidarity among populations. Particularly, AIDA contributes at increasing the economic capabilities of developing countries. AIDA´s main intervention approach focuses on the development and implementation of productive projects in countries with remarkable structural imbalances. The main emphasis within this framework is on rural development interventions at the field, particularly in areas such as fishing , aquaculture and rural cooperatives. AIDA contributes to cover basic human needs through the promotion of alternative viable and sustainable development strategies.

AIDA is currently working in 11 countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Guinea Bissau, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Vietnam. AIDA is fostering the relation with the academic sector. Due to that they (AIDA) have already signed agreements with Spanish Universities (Granada, Salamanca) and working on diversifying their partnerships outside Spain (European School of Advanced Study, Pavia –Italy, and University of Liverpool, UK).
