In this millennium, the world is witnessing a notable change in the understanding of women’s emancipation and equality in the society. Although it is anticipated by many that women’s battles for equality have been won, the endurance of gender inequality has evolved with time. Unfortunately, women are still facing inequity in the social organizations including professions, business or even in politics. The global scenario of women’s health, education or violence against them is worse than that of men. Despite all of those downsides, some great improvements have been made. Today, we (including Bangladesh) have female prime ministers; girls are coming to schools and universities. Women have the power to make decision. And thus, the purpose and motivation of the IWD 2010, unlike the previous decades, is more towards the celebration of more positive realization and achievements. ISD (in ULAB) along with the world is showing sincere concern for the women involved in our institution, and initiates to celebrate a “WOMEN’S WEEK” in order to involve more awareness on women’s recent emancipation.
