Curtin University of Technology

ULAB has an MoU with Curtin University of Technology (Australia) to further "their mutual interest in the field of education and research" and contribute to increased international cooperation. As part of the MoU, the two institutions will cooperate in the exchange of information promote appropriate joint research projects and joint courses of study, endeavor to encourage students and staff to spend periods of time in the host institution, conduct cultural projects, study tours, and provide Study Abroad opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate level.

The MoU with Curtin University of Technology will help fulfill ULAB's commitment to helping its students to become responsible and caring citizens of the world by bringing to its students the best that has been thought and accomplished in the arts and sciences throughout the world. It will also help further Curtin University's commitment to international engagement.

University of Gloucestershire

ULAB and the University of Gloucestershire, UK, have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which outlines the intention of both Universities to explore ways of working together and sharing resources to advance the cause and education of Sustainability.

To that end, the University of Gloucestershire has committed to training ULAB faculty in Active Learning Techniques and issues of Sustainability in Education. Each year, dedicated trainers from the university's Center for Active Learning (CeAL) arrive in Dhaka and engage in intensive work with ULAB faculty and administrators to develop their level of understanding. They also facilitate workshops, deliver lectures, and hold seminars while at ULAB.

The University of Gloucestershire is one of the most unique universities in the world in that it has made Sustainability one of its core missions. According to its own statement, "Sustainable Development underpins each of the University's Strategic Priorities and informs all elements of University life. The University promotes sustainable development locally and globally, through teaching, research, knowledge transfer and the general conduct of its business."

Because of ULAB's own strong commitment to the cause of Sustainable Development, both universities felt that cooperation would be mutually beneficial and look forward to fostering stronger ties going forward.

Katalyst

ULAB and Katalyst have a MoU on introducing a study concentration on "Business Journalism" under the Media Studies and Journalism Department. The project has five major components to include curriculum development, faculty development, course materials development, facilities development and program promotions.

The Business Journalism study concentration is expected to meet the country’s urgent need for competent journalists who are grounded not only in business and journalism but who also possess a broad knowledge base that only a liberal arts education can provide. 

To develop the curriculum, the parties will undertake roundtable discussions/consultations, hold sessions with foreign consultants and conduct a focused group discussion with industry leaders.  In developing its faculty, the parties will launch seminars on course module development and case study writing.  They will also expose faculty to business television and print journalism media.  The faculty - coming from both Business and Media Studies and Journalism Departments - will likewise write their own modules and case studies. 


Edith Cowan University (ECU)

University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Edith Cowan University of Western Australia have an MoU that recognizes that collaborative efforts will be of mutual benefit and may contribute to an enduring institutional linkage for education co-operation and assistance.

ECU and ULAB agree to explore cooperative activities, possibly including: the development of programs and services in specific areas of mutual interest, program development, professional development and cultural exchanges; formal award courses and professional development courses in media studies and journalism; collaborative research projects; and staff and student exchanges.

Concern Universal Bangladesh (CUB)

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Concern Universal Bangladesh (CUB) have a Memorandum of Understanding on producing a video documentary on community stakeholders’ perceptions on disaster risk reduction. The project will have main four activities to include: an orientation seminar on disaster risk reduction and climate change; seminar on project documentation; video documentary production and video documentary exhibition.

 The video documentary is expected to generate quality process documentation that will facilitate replication of good practices and lessons learnt for other disaster risk reduction actors and practitioners across the globe.

The documentary will explore the perceptions of community stakeholders in Concern Universal’s Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Project in Pathuakali and Barguna, Barisal with regards to their roles and responsibilities, expectations, experiences as change agents and the challenges being faced.

AIDA, Aid, Exchange, and Development

ULAB's Institute for Sustainability will build partnership with AIDA in two areas: 1) A specific twenty four month long project in collaboration; 2) a student exchange and knowledge platform-based partnership.

The MoU aims at defining the working relations between AIDA, ULAB and two of its departments, ISD and MSJ, to design a partnership in three main domains -

Domain 1: Participative need analysis- scoping process.
Domain 2: Scale up creativity and student's ideas.
Domain 3: Generation of demand-based knowledge to substantive knowledge.

 


The Embassy of Spain

The Embassy of Spain and ULAB's Institute for Sustainability (ISD) participated in collaborative action research and a subsequent multimedia exhibition of results titled "The Threaded Resort".

The exhibit focused on the empowerment of female garment workers of Bangladesh. It included a case study display and a documentary film show alongside photographs.

SOLIDARITES International

SOLIDARITES International engaged two researchers from Institute for Sustainability Development (proposed) for a DRR training workshop in Shatkhira.

SOLIDARITES will also take Institute for Sustainability Development’s support in a documentation project.

Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID)

The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and the Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID) have an Memorandum of Understanding on creating and promoting knowledge on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development.  Both organizations believe that ICT is an effective tool in spurring development in Bangladesh given its interactivity, growing accessibility and ability to share information from many-to-many.  Concretely, both organizations aim to collaborate on research projects and jointly publish a Working Paper Series on ICT for Development.

The quarterly Working Paper Series journal seeks to articulate, capture and document success stories, best practices, lessons learnt and shortcomings of projects in developing countries concerning using ICT for development purposes.  The panel of editors includes distinguished academics from all over the world.

Bangladesh Brand Forum

Bangladesh Brand ForumUniversity of Liberal Arts Bangladesh has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF).

Under this MoU, the university is the Knowledge Partner of BBF. ULAB through this MoU will get the opportunity to create new knowledge generation.

Prof Ferhat Anwar said Bangladesh Brand Forum is formed with the vision of aiding the corporate sector to create remarkable world class brands.
 

 


 

Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd.

Kazi and Kazi Tea Estate LogoUniversity of Liberal Arts Bangladesh-Institute for Sustainable Development (ISD) has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Ltd. (KKTE).

Under this MoU, ULAB and KKTE will jointly conduct a research on the social impact of KKTE. ULAB will provide the technical support with lead role of research. KKTE arrange all the needed financial and logistical support for this project at its estate and nearby regions in Panchagarh.

ULAB believes this project is an opportunity to translate its development policy into practice, and thereby create a local regional model of knowledge. KKTE believes this agreement will help to build support from ULAB in research into organic farming and healthy crops.

The Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI)

An MoU has been signed between ULAB ISD and IDDRI, SciencePo.  Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) is a research institute of the international university, SciencePo. SciencePo is one of the top universities of France that offers Under-graduate, Graduate and PhD programs in various disciplines and multiple languages.

The ongoing project is titled Building a Framework of Knowledge Generation and Transfer on Climate Change adaptation through active learning. During the three year tenure of MoU, ULAB-ISD and IDDRI will share different expertise of their institutions while designing researches and programs, especially in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction, Adaptation to Climate Change and Environmental issues and host seminars to garner knowledge.
 
ULAB ISD will also supervise the field research of the students of SciencePo sent by IDDRI. Both of the institutions will also define new courses, curricula, research issues and collaborative publication.
